Vitex is a regulator of the sex hormones
Chaste Berry (also referred to as Vitex) is used as a regulator of the sex hormones via the pituitary gland, balancing levels of progesterone, estrogen, prolactin and other hormones. It is especially valuable in long-term imbalances, and in these cases should be used over a period of months at least. Long-term irregular menstrual cycle: too early, late, intermittent, painful, PMS symptoms, menopausal symptoms following long-term hormonal imbalances. Used to control excessive sexual desire, and increase where desire is too low. The pungent berries were long used to promote appetite and digestion and stimulate the liver.

Vitex is believed to work by stimulating luteinizing hormonal production and inhibiting follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which results in an elevated progesterone level and a more balanced estrogen level. Vitex improves milk production in nursing mothers. Best results are obtained when women use vitex for the first ten days after birthing. It has been found to balance prolactin (the hormone associated with milk production) levels. Interestingly, it can also help decrease prolactin in non nursing women who are having abnormal menses. It can help reduce pain and lumps in the breast. Vitex has been found to be helpful in fibroid cysts that occur in the smooth muscle.

Damiana leaves: Damiana (Turnera Aphrodisiaca) is primarily used for treating female disorders, sexual stimulant for men & women, infertility, menopause, PMS, hormonal imbalances, prostate disorders, depression, bronchitis, fatigue, nervous debility, anxiety and as a reproductive system tonic.

Dong quai is one of the most extensively researched Chinese medicinal herbs. It is  well known as a valuable female remedy of proven benefit to women throughout the menstrual cycle and during the transition to menopause. Dong quai has a been used in China for thousands of years to treat ailments of the female reproductive system and as a tonic herb to treat fatigue, mild anemia, high blood pressure and poor circulation in both men and women.

Research in the United States indicates that dong quai, when used alone, has no demonstrable estrogen like effect on menopausal women. However, other United States research has shown that dong quai, when used in combination with other herbs, resulted in a reduction of the severity of hot flashes, vaginal dryness, insomnia, and mood changes.

Dong quai is not indicated as a replacement for natural estrogen. Its unique mechanism of action reportedly promotes natural progesterone synthesis, a hormone that declines during menopause. Dong quai's ability to relieve menstrual problems has been attributed to its muscle relaxing properties and its action to quiet spasms in the internal organs. Dong quai has a tonic effect on all female reproductive organs and increases blood flow to the uterus. It acts to increase vaginal secretions and to nourish vaginal tissue. Dong quai root's analgesic properties help diminish uterine pain and have been found to be as much as 1.7 times as effective as aspirin. The herb has also been useful in the treatment of migraine headaches.

Black cohosh : Black cohosh has a history of usage for women's gynecological problems, dating back to the Algonquian natives living in the Ohio Valley. Today, black cohosh is still used for gynecological problems from menstruation to menopause, with several studies over the past 40 years backing this up.

Evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) -- a  yellow-flowering plant from the J1 willow family -- is as beautiful as it is beneficial to our health. The fatty liquid, or oil, extracted from the botanical's seeds, contains -- and is one of the best sources of -- the fatty acid, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). This "essential" fatty acid (EFA) has been shown, through virtually hundreds of studies, to be therapeutic -- helping to alleviate or ease a wide span of health problems, including acne, arthritis, premenstrual syndrome, obesity, and many other common physical ailments.

Evening primrose oil aids in weight loss, reduces high blood pressure, and helps to treat all skin disorders, in addition to female disorders such as cramps & heavy bleedings, hot flashes, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, alcoholism and any other disorders.

Siberian Ginseng comes from the woody roots and not the typical fleshy rootstocks of the other ginsengs. The active ingredients, eleuthrerosides (B & E), are glycosides which provide the adaptogenic properties. Siberian Ginseng helps the body handle stressful conditions while enhancing mental and athletic abilities. The glycosides appear to act on the adrenal glands, helping to prevent adrenal hypertrophy and excess corticosteroid production in response to stress. Siberian Ginseng has been shown to increase energy, stamina, help the body resist viral infections, environmental toxins, radiation and chemotherapy. Siberian Ginseng is used to restore memory, concentration and cognitive abilities which may be impaired by improper blood supply to the brain.

Horny Goat Weed (Epimedium grandiflorum, Epimedium sagittatum) is an all-natural phyto-aphrodisiac with a long history as a sex-enhancer. Many cultures report that horny goat weed supports libido, erectile function, and helps to relieve menopausal discomfort. Centuries ago Chinese goat farmers noticed that both their older goats experienced sexual rejuvenation after eating the Epimedium plant, hence the name "Horny Goat Weed".

Epimedium contains a compound known as lcariin that allegedly helps to stimulate the nerves throughout the body, particularly in the genitals. Supposedly desire is also increased along with erectile function, and testosterone levels from an androgen-like influence on the testes, prostate and sexual muscles. The Chinese Academy of Sciences recommends the regular use of Horny Goat Weed to slow the aging process as it purportedly improves the quality of life. Little factual research is available to support the aggressive claims found on the Internet.

False Unicorn Root (Chamaelirium luteum) is a herbaceous perennial found in low moist ground east of the Mississippi and flowering in May and June. Stem 1 to 3 feet high, simple, smooth, angular; leaves alternate, spatulate below, lanceolate above, radical leaves, 8 inches long, 1/2 inch wide, narrow at base and formed into a whorl; flowers numerous, small, greenish white, bractless, dioecious, in a dense, terminal raceme, nodding like a plume, 6 inches long.

The medicinal use of false unicorn root is based in Native American tradition, where it was recommended for many women?s health conditions, including amenorrhea (lack of menstruation), dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), and other irregularities of menstruation, as well as to prevent miscarriages. It was also used as a remedy for morning sickness.

Red Raspberry leaf has an affinity for the female reproductive system. It aids the menstruating woman as it helps to bring balance into the menstrual cycle and will help alleviate excessive bleeding. The fruit is rich in nutrients and iron and is helpful in the treatment of anemia.
